Ashtanga Yoga

Beginner level


This class is for people who are new to the Ashtanga vinyasa system. Students will be guided through each posture in a safety manner so that proper development and understanding of the Ashtanga Yoga system can be easily understood. No prior knowledge is needed. Students who already have some knowledge about Ashtanga Yoga will also benefit from this class, since we will progressively build up new postures according to individual foundations and needs. Students will be introduced to the foundation of the Ashtanga Yoga practice: Tristhana- the three points of attention/action that are utilized in Ashtanga yoga. ( see about yoga page ) As a beginner you can start whenever you want. You don't need any experience. 

Mysore class


During a Mysore class every practitioner practices his set of series given by the teacher on his own rhytm, within a group. This series is fixed, into detail, with every movement synchronized with inhalation and exhalation. There are 6 series in Ashtanga Yoga system. The Primary Series [Yoga Chikitsa] detoxifies and aligns the body. The Intermediate Series [Nadi Shodhana] purifies the nervous system by opening and clearing the energy channels. The Advanced Series A, B, C, and D [Sthira Bhaga] integrate the strength and grace of the practice, requiring higher levels of flexibility and humility. Each level is to be fully developed before proceeding to the next, and the sequential order of asanas is to be meticulously followed. Each posture is a preparation for the next, developing the strength and balance required to move further"

From the moment that the practitioner knows the first serie by heart, he/she is ready to start practicing Mysore classes. During Mysore classes, the teacher adjusts each practioner personally, giving advice and stretching deeper into asanas. When the practiotioner is ready, a new asana is added to his current set of serie. 

Mysore style is Ashtanga Yoga. During an hour and a half practitioner focuses on 3 things: asana, breathing and dhristi (focus). Mysore style creates a foundation for a subtle and personal journey into self discovery.
